Their Love Story

Cory and Candice met while swing dancing in Fountain Square. Although Candice had been going on and off for a few years, this was Cory’s first and last time going, thanks to his friends Zach and Eva. Cory was Candice’s last partner in the lessons before open dancing started. She went to a table and found Cory sitting with a drink in his hand looking bored. When looking back on this memory, Candice said “Usually I am too afraid to ask guys to dance but I heard my friend Keltsey’s voice in my head telling me ‘I need to step up and start asking people’, so I asked him if he wanted to come dance.” He replied with “not right now.”

Candice walked away to go meet up with some friends and wait for someone to ask her to dance. Soon after, Cory went up to her while she was with her friends to ask if she still wanted to dance and, of course, the answer was “yes.” That first dance quickly turned into another, which turned into spending the rest of the evening together just talking and dancing.

She later found out that Eva had kind of yelled at him for turning down a girl that asked him for a dance. Before leaving for the night, Cory and Candice exchanged numbers and he asked if she wanted to go see a movie the following night. They went on a few dates before Cory cheekily told her that they were officially going out together.

About a month later, Candice’s roommates were hosting a fall party. At this event, Candice and Cory were sitting on the couch with some friends just talking and enjoying their company. Something came up and Cory started saying “that’s why I lo-” and stopped himself before actually saying it. After the conversation was over, they were still sitting on the couch, Candice leaning into him, whispering “what were you about to say?” That’s when he said “That’s why I love you”. Candice then buried into him further to hide her giddy smile and giggle then said “I love you too”.

The thing Candice loves most about Cory is his continuous love and understanding. “I know I am not always the easiest person to be around as I can get moody at times and lash out at those closest to me and be very insecure at times. Despite all this, Cory gives me what I need even when I don’t know what that is in the moment.”

When reflecting on what he loves most about Candice, Cory said “She is so calm and comforting. There have been many times in which I have felt nervous, unsure of myself, or simply angry at myself for one reason or another, but she always makes me feel glad to be myself, whether it be laughing at my dumb jokes or encouraging me to take part in my interests and hobbies.”

Their Wedding Day

About two and half years later, Candice and Cory were set to get married, although they claim that they went about the whole engagement process all out of order. She had been asking about getting married for quite a while when finally, one day, Cory turned around when they were in the office, and said "So, what, you just want to get married?" To which she replied "Yes, that's exactly what I want to do."

That launched the backward process that started with the proposal, then went to him asking her dad, then us going to get the ring together (which Candice says is a good thing as he was completely lost on what to do). She had told him that she really wanted a real proposal with the ring and the kneeling and all of the other details. One day, she was sitting on the couch after a bad day at work, Cory came in and started recording her and gave her a box which had the ring inside and he proposed right then and there.

When thinking about their wedding day, they are most excited for the reception party afterwards. Neither of them are big at being the center of attention; however, they also don’t want to miss out on having all of the memories from throughout the day. Candice said “the thought of having our friends and family around us celebrating with food, music, and good times is really what is driving us forward.”

Cory and Candice have decided to postpone their honeymoon until October, when they can spend some extra time together during fall break. They’ll be going to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to do “all of the fun things there” but also relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.

Our Favorite Memory

In our opinion, seeing this group of family and friends come together was the sweetest part of Candice and Cory’s wedding. We actually told Candice’s father that it seemed like the whole family already knew each other, to which he replied “oh yeah, we’ve all been a family for a while already!”

It’s always great to see people mingling in celebration, but the Elkins and Lehnert families really took that to another level! It seemed like members from each family and their friends were constantly going out of their way to say hello or dance together. Seeing so many people that were filled with joy and love for the newlyweds was simply heartwarming.
